AMK Day 2: Affiliate Marketing

Welcome to AMK Day 2 Training

Hello and welcome to AMK Day 2’s extended training where we will be covering the fundamentals.

I’ve talked about affiliate marketing in depth in a previous article here and will be referring to it throughout this training.

Here is an extract from that:

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is a type of internet marketing where you get paid for promoting someone else’s products or services.

Some examples here would be Amazon, Apple, Canon, Ikea, Nike, Samsung, etc.

They’re happy to pay you a commission because you help them find new customers they wouldn’t have otherwise found.

The commission you earn depends on what you sell and who you sell for but there are plenty of options!

How Does it Work?

There are many different strategies for making money online as an affiliate marketer.

Don’t be fooled by people claiming how their particular strategy is THE strategy and to forget everything else.

It really comes down to preference and how you want to do business online, but the basic formula never changes:

Keep It Simple

Affiliate marketing is very straightforward.

It is simply the act of connecting a customer on the internet with a quality product or service.

Don’t Overthink It

It’s not difficult to make money online and there is no secret to it, you just have to focus on providing your customers with value.

As long as you care about your visitors and help them find good products that suit their wants and needs, you will be successful!

How It’s Done

You should now have a good idea of how Affiliate Marketing works and how to make money online, so let’s go through the steps to make it happen.

Step 1: Choose a Niche

Choosing a Niche is the first step to knowing what kind of products and services you will be promoting or reviewing, it is often best to be something that you know well.

Attached below is another snippet from the previous article explaining this:

Here are some ideas to get creative juices flowing:

– Writing reviews about products or services e.g. the best cameras, clothing, food, furniture, guitars, jewellery, software, technology, tools, web hosting… there are limitless options for you to choose from!

– Talking about your favourite books, games, movies, music, TV shows… perhaps you’re a Game of Thrones fan so you talk about it and promote GoT books or T-shirts.

– Teaching people a skill like cooking, dancing, martial arts, playing an instrument, singing… If you have a skill or skills share it with the world! Many people online are eager to learn something new so why not be the one to teach them?

– Inform people about a subject you know really well like dieting, DIY, exercise, fishing, home decorating, nutrition… with so many using the internet, there will be more than a few who will appreciate your opinions and thoughts on a given topic!

Step 2: Researching Keywords

Once you have chosen your niche, you will need to focus on researching relevant long-tailed keywords with low competition.

Long-tailed keywords actually have little to do with the words or length themselves, but more so with how popular these keywords are in search engines. However the more specific you get with your keyword searches, you will likely have less competition.

For example “Cameras” would have higher monthly searches and popularity with more competition, meaning it is NOT a long-tailed keyword. Thus your website is less likely to rank high in search engines.

On the other hand, “Best Nikon DSLR Digital Cameras 2018” is a lot more specific. It would have less monthly searches and lower popularity/ competition meaning it IS a long-tailed keyword. This gives you a much better chance of making the top pages in search engines.

Try to find keyword phrases that are grammatically correct, people would then type them into a search engine when looking to buy a product or service online.

Step 3: Find an Affiliate program

You can find affiliate programs on search engines, typically by searching for a product or service and affiliate program e.g. Cameras + affiliate programs.

There are many established companies who will pay you to help them find new customers by reviewing their products and services on your website.

Step 4: Build a Website

This may seem scary to someone who’s never done it before, but getting a basic website set up is actually pretty simple these days.

If you haven’t already done this, I have covered it in great depth in the following article:

The Best WordPress Free Website Builder

Step 5: Research and Create Content

Sure it may take little time to get your website up and running, but you still need to fill it with meaningful articles!

You should research products and services relevant to your niche and create quality content with insightful information.

This means helping your visitors make unbiased decisions about the products or services you review.

As time goes on and you create more articles for your website, your site will gain authority making it easier to rank higher in search engines, which means more visitors, engagement and hopefully sales.

Step 6: Expanding and Promoting your Business

Once you have finished setting up your website and added content, it is important to focus on further expanding and promoting your online business.

This can be done in a variety of ways, here are a few examples:

  • Keeping updated in your niches and writing more articles
  • Posting and sharing to social media
  • Engaging with your visitors and answering questions
  • Creating podcasts or videos about a specific topic
  • Outsourcing in the future

This should provide some insight into developing your online business. You should always be looking for new ways to grow.

Day 2: Summary

Don’t worry if some of this isn’t fully clear to you right now, the goal is not to be an expert in these 5 days, but to instead gain an understanding of how this all works.

After a while when your website has grown, you will become more confident in your writing skills and you can even look at targeting some of the more competitive keywords.

Tomorrow we will take a look at how to identify, avoid and learn how to better protect yourself from any potential scams out there.

Today’s Tasks

Task 1: Write Down 3 Interests or Hobbies You Have

It’s time to get you thinking about marketable ideas by writing down 3 interests or hobbies. Think about: What drew you to them? Is it something others would like? Is it something you know well? Can you promote a relevant product or service?

Task 2: Consider The Last Product or Service You Purchased Online

How did you find it? What was your thought process? What did you research? Did you set out to buy something or did something persuade you?  Did you find any helpful information about what you were looking for?

Task 3: Watch This Video About Choosing Your Niche

In today’s lesson we covered different ideas for choosing your Niche and the thought process behind that.

This video on the Wealthy Affiliate platform goes into more depth and helps you better understand and decide for yourself.

Well done for completing today’s lesson, stay focused, take action and I will see you tomorrow! 🙂
